Soñar el sueño imposible: Don Quijote y el sueño americano

 Mi investigación se ha enfocado en  examinar la relación entre el sueño americano y el personaje de Don Quijote. He comparado a Don Quijote y los ideales de los EE. UU. y sus ciudadanos. Explora lo que significa el sueño americano, su historia y como la novela de Cervantes capta algunos de los elementos más fuertes del sueño americano. Además, explora la experiencia personal del investigador de vivir en los Estados Unidos y crecer con ese sueño americano en su familia y en la sociedad que le rodea y  sus vivencias en España. El estudio afirma que el sueño americano es la esperanza y la acción de cambiar la vida y el medio ambiente y que Don Quijote encarna esta creencia en su insatisfacción con su vida y su transformación en un caballero andante. En este modo Don Quijote “persigue la felicidad” y capta  lo que significa de vivir sus sueños. 

My research describes and focuses on the relationship between the American Dream and the character of Don Quixote. It is an examination and comparison between Don Quixote and the ideals of America and her citizens. It explores what the American Dream means and a little bit of its history and how Don Quixote captures some of the strongest elements of the American Dream. Also, it touches on the researcher´s experience of living in the United States and his experience with the American Dream in his family and in society and briefly mentions his experience in Spain and what he observed over there. The study affirms that the American Dream is the hope for and act of changing one´s life and environment and that Don Quixote embodies this belief in his dissatisfaction with his life and his transformation into a knight errant. In this way, Don Quixote “pursues happiness” and captures what it means to live his dreams.
